OpenAI has integrated realtime search into Chatgpt results. There is a problem with this that hopefully OpenAI will fix in the near future. The results come mainly from large compapies. If you search for ‘AI courses’ your results will reflect only those offerings from the largest providers of this service.
Anthropic released the Claude desktop app. At this point even though Claude is my preferred AI tool I have not had the time to dig into the desktop version. I will have more of a review next week.
Magniific released Mystic 2.5 which offers hyperrealistic image and video creation.
The Open Source Initiative has written their take on what defines Open Source AI(OSAI). They point to systems that provide access to training data, complete code, and settings or weights, challenging models like Meta’s Llama, which restricts data access and commercial use.
Denmark with NVIDIA launches their Sovereign AI computer to solve scientific problems and social impact. This supercomputer ranks in the top 20 most powerful in the world.
Google Gemini and AI Studio now working with realtime search results.
Hugging Face releases SMOlLM2 which outperforms Meta’s LLAMA for on device use.
AI For Good
The evolutionary transition from aquatic to terrestrial locomotion, occurring approximately 390 million years ago during the Devonian period, represents a crucial yet poorly understood phase in vertebrate evolution due to limited fossilized evidence. This significant knowledge gap in the biomechanical adaptations of early tetrapods has prompted novel investigative approaches.
Research Methodology: A multidisciplinary team at the University of Cambridge has developed an innovative methodology combining computational biomechanics with robotic modeling to elucidate this critical evolutionary transition.
* The research utilizes bio-inspired robots optimized for energetic efficiency, each designed to replicate hypothesized locomotor patterns of early tetrapods
* These biomechanical analogues will undergo experimental trials to quantify locomotor kinematics and dynamics
Research Implications: "Our methodology integrates paleontological data with physical mechanical systems, allowing us to bridge the gap between theoretical models and empirical biomechanics," explains principal investigator Dr. Michael Ishida. "While computational modeling remains fundamental to our research, the implementation of physical robotic systems enables direct testing of locomotor hypotheses and may provide insights into the selective pressures that drove specific movement patterns."

Google NotebookLM, for Personal Knowledge Mangement
NotebookLM, a cutting-edge AI tool developed by Google, tha empowers you to efficiently process and understand complex information. NotebookLM can quickly summarize large amounts of text, extract key points, and provide relevant quotes.
Key Benefits
Time-saving: Streamline research and analysis.
Enhanced Comprehension: Gain deeper insights from complex texts.
Versatile Applications: Utilize for academic research, professional writing, or personal learning.
Getting Started
To begin working with NotebookLM, you'll need a Google account and a basic understanding. NotebookLLM is available by simply going to https://notebooklm.google.com/. You will automatically be singed in based on your Gmail account profile. This is free to use.
Using NotebookLM for Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) is highly effective due to its AI-driven capabilities for organizing, synthesizing, and retrieving information. Here are some key ways NotebookLM can enhance your PKM system:
Centralized Knowledge Repository
NotebookLM enables you to upload a variety of documents, including PDFs, Google Docs, and notes from multiple sources, into one notebook. This helps in creating a central hub for managing and accessing all personal knowledge. You can upload up to 50 sources per notebook, such as text files, research papers, or personal notes, and organize these sources into custom notebooks based on topics or projects for easy retrieval.
I use this for research for my blog writing currently. I find it great for keeping my ideas and thoughts separated into neat little piles - if you will - of information. Think of it as information pillars. Each notebook you create can be on a particular topic or idea.
Intelligent Search and Retrieval
NotebookLM’s intelligent search across all uploaded documents is a valuable feature for PKM. Users can ask natural language questions about their notes and receive answers grounded in specific documents. The AI provides citations linking back to original passages, allowing for quick verification or further exploration. This capability eliminates the need for manually searching through vast amounts of notes, as the AI can instantly retrieve relevant information.
The more data you input to your notebook of course means a better response to any questions you may be asking of the notebook conent.
Contextual Understanding and Synthesis
NotebookLM is great at synthesizing information across sources. This makes it ideal for PKM users seeking connections or insights among different documents. The AI can summarize large volumes of text. NotebookLLM, therefore, has the ability to suggest related ideas based on your notes also supports brainstorming and exploring new directions for projects.
NotebookLM can categorize and tag notes automatically based on content. This reduces the cognitive load of organizing information manually. This allows you to retrieve specific notes more easily with relevant tags or categories suggested by the AI.
Enhanced Learning and Reflection
NotebookLM offers features that support continuous learning. This makes it ideal for lifelong learners or professionals managing extensive knowledge. You can upload course materials or books and query the AI for summaries or explanations of complex concepts. Also, NotebookLM supports iterative learning, allowing users to revisit and build upon previous conversations over time.
It can also offer audio summaries of your notes.
Personal "Second Brain"
NotebookLM can serve as a personalized assistant, evolving with your knowledge base. By continuously adding new documents and notes to various notebooks, you create a "second brain" where personal knowledge is stored and accessible through conversational queries. This setup frees up mental space by offloading tasks like recalling details or finding references, allowing for more creative thinking.
NotebookLM works well enough for a PKM by centralizing information, and enabling intelligent data retrieval. Its AI-powered features streamline managing large volumes of personal knowledge, enhancing productivity and learning.
