If you have heard over the weekend that during the New Hampshire primary robocalls went out mimicking Joe Biden’s voice. Research has shown that these calls were created using tools from Eleven Labs. Eleven Labs is a text-to-speech tool that several YouTubers now use for their voice-over narration.

The general idea of taking two model weights and smushing them together to get a new, sometimes useful, model out is having its moment in the sun. It’s a new way of experimenting with LLMs, which is especially useful to the GPU poor. This is called model merging.

Unfortunately, this did produce an error. At least one result did not return a reachable web address. Not sure what the error was.
